Cafe Reconcile is a workforce development/job skills training program for young people ages 17-23. The Reconcile program consists of four weeks of Foundational Skills (Soft Employment Skills: "How to talk to your Employer", "Personal Budgeting", "Code Switching", "Resume Writing", "Hot Buttons", "Problem Solving" etc.) The next four weeks students spend downstairs in our Cafe, splitting their time. Two weeks of Front of House training where students are the Runners, Bussers, Hosts, Servers, and Floaters, and two weeks in the Back of House where students learn the Fry, Prep, Pantry, Dish, Hotline and Sauté Stations. The last three weeks of the program students are placed on an Externship with one of Reconcile's Internship Partners with the hope that the internship transitions into a full-time job for the youth.
Cafe Reconcile provides Case Management supports: housing, child care, substance abuse counseling, one-on-one mental health counseling and referrals and court support during the students 8 weeks 'in-house' and often long beyond. Reconcile also has numerous relationships in the community to support students' educational goals, and provides an in-house HiSET program intended to re-connect students to positive educational pathways; both for those students looking to finish their high school diploma, and those pursuing higher education.
While at Reconcile, in addition to the training and supports, students receive a weekly stipend based on attendance, breakfast and lunch every day, bus passes (or a weekly gas stipend) and a full uniform. Cafe Reconcile starts a new class every 8 weeks, and is always accepting applications.
